Your Halloween costume doesn’t have to be scary or spooky.  It just has to be fun, creative and memorable. This Halloween, show your HBCU pride by dressing up as your favorite team mascot. Along with being unique, it will also be a comfortable and easy to put together look. Below are a few ideas to help get you started:

The FAMU Rattler

Show your Rattler spirit with this simple costume. Begin by buying or making your own green snake mask using felt material. If you make your own, consider adding an orange tongue to the mask to incorporate the FAMU colors. Complete the look with a Rattler t-shirt and a pair of jeans. You can also wear shorts with orange tights if weather permits.

The Grambling Tiger

Represent Grambling University this Halloween by dressing up as a Tiger or Tigress. All you’ll need to get the look are Tiger ears and a tail.  Again, you can wear simple jeans and your favorite college t-shirt or sweatshirt to get your roaring look.

Alabama State University Hornet

If you’re a Mighty Hornet, you might want to share the love for your HBCU this Halloween. Also easy to put together, you’ll find black and yellow Hornet antennas at many costume stores. Most styles will fit over the head easily and look much like a headband. Along with the antennas, you can elevate your look by attaching wings to your back. Wear black slacks or a skirt and pair it with an Alabama State University t-shirt or sweatshirt. You’ll be sure to impress no matter where you go on Halloween night.

Hampton University Pirate

Trick-or-treaters have always enjoyed dressing up as Pirates for Halloween. Let everyone know that you love your HBCU by dressing up as the Hampton Pirate. To get the look you’ll need an eye patch, sword, white shirt and a royal blue pirate hat. Put your Hampton t-shirt over your white shirt to finalize your look. Be sure to practice your “arrr” before leaving the house.

Wear one of these cool costumes to the office Halloween party or out trick-or-treating with kids. You can also get your little one in on the fun by creating a costume for them. Consider making your little boy a football player, and your little girl a cheerleader from your favorite HBCU. Visit our store to shop for official football jerseys and cheerleader outfits from these and other HBCU schools.
